11/21/06-Even though it may be a while before I actually read this book, I decided to read the opening chapter to get a taste of the authors style. I think I am really going to enjoy this book. I lived in Lubbock, Texas for four years and have been somewhat fascinated by the states history since.

9/30/07- I will finally be reading the Texas novel this week.

10/1/07-Page 30. I'm really enjoying this book already. Michener has a very easy to read style, while drawing you into nicely detailed passages.

10/30/07-Page 168. I haven't had near enough time to read lately, but I've finally made it up to 1789. The area that will be known as San Antonio now exists. I enjoy the growth of the towns over the decades, although I haven't experienced very much of that, yet.

2/9/08- I've placed this book on hold for a while.

10/29/08- Page 224. I picked it up again and have read about 50 more pages. The story has just moved into the Texas settlement period. I wish there were more historical characters included. Most of them are fictional in this chapter. I'm still very much looking forward to the war with Mexico and Santa Anna.
